Last Day of School Picnic

Charlie walked into room 101 for the last time today as a preschooler. The first order of business this morning was to celebrate the kids "stepping up" to the next grade level, Charlie is now a junior kindergartner.  They all received Hawaiian leis in different colors each representing the grade the kids will be moving to during the next school year. Then we said good-bye to Charlie's teacher Miss Kate who is moving to Oklahoma and that a sad good-bye. After we said all of the good-byes it was time to head outside to the picnic and what an experience it was! Everyone packed lunches and blankets and picked a spot on the grass. It was fun to catch up with parents and watch the kids play. After an exhausting two hours we headed home and officially ended the 2013-2014 school year.

Last Day of Preschool!

School is over! Charlie made it through his first year of preschool and is now a junior kindergartner (which he is very excited about) and we are so proud of him and all that he has accomplished this year. It's hard to believe that 9 months ago Charlie was starting preschool and Evy wasn't here yet. So much has changed in such a short time!

Charlie has learned so much this year, below are just a few of his accomplishments this year:

  • He is writing his name and room number.
  • He colors all the time and stays in the lines almost every time.
  • He knows almost all of his letter sounds and even the names of most letters.
  • He recognizes number 1-10.
  • He knows all about mammals (I told him a dolphin was a fish last night and he corrected me and told me they were mammals)
  • He learned all about arctic animals and walruses.
  • He learned about humpback whales and the threat of their extinction.
  • He learned all about dinosaurs.
  • He can say the pledge of allegiance.
  • He learned his address and knows what City and Country he lives in.
  • He can recite poems and sing so many songs I don't even know where to begin!
  • He can count and sing in Spanish.

Charlie's Class Field Trip

Today I  chaperoned Charlie's class field trip to the Nature Museum. I was slightly nervous at the beginning of the trip when most parents were assigned three or four kids and I only had two -- Charlie and his best buddy Max. Max and Charlie have become close the past couple of months, which is great except they seem to find trouble when they are together so I knew I had my hands full.

(They look innocent)

(Attempted class photo, that's max walking in front of everyone)

(Charlie refusing to be a part of the group! He was relaxing!)

Despite these two jokers, I always enjoy myself when I am with Charlie and I enjoy watching him interact with his classmates. He's become more outgoing and social since starting Mayer, it is fun to watch!

Mayer Walk-A-Thon 2014

Last Friday was a big day at Charlie's school, it was Mayer's annual walk-a-thon. The day started with Charlie's class running laps around the park for 45 minutes (imagine a 5k race). There were people lining the sidewalks cheering on the kids, water stations, a DJ to keep the energy flowing and at every lap the numbers on the kids backs were marked so they knew how many laps were completed. At the end of the 45 minutes Charlie finished an amazing 8 laps! Once the race was over the kids grabbed some fruit and water to replenish. Charlie had a blast.

(Another lap completed)

(Still running strong)

(Charlie getting his laps marked -- mommy and daddy ran a couple with Charlie)

(Cheese!)

(Charlie hydrating at the water station)

(Phew, starting to get sweaty and tired)

(So proud of his race!)

(Job well done!)

(Even Evy was there to cheer on her brother)

After the "race" the kids went back to their classrooms to continue their day, but the fun wasn't over yet! After school was the walk-a-thon after party. The after party included: face painting, bouncy houses, music, a magician, ice cream, balloon animals and more! When I picked Charlie up from school he said, "this is the greatest day ever, I love walk-a-thon days." We spent a couple hours at the after-party before wrapping up the fun filled day.

(Evy getting in on the fun)

(Charlie chose to get a mustache at the face painting booth)

(Showing off his climbing skills)

(Proud of his stache!)

(Hanging out with Lilija and Alex, friends from his classroom)

We all had a great day and enjoyed the walk-a-thon. Charlie is having a hard time understanding that we have to wait until next year to do it again!
